The University of California, Berkeley in cooperation with Sandia National Laboratories and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory hosted the the Project on Nuclear Gaming’s SIGNAL: Nuclear Gaming Symposium on Monday, December 3, 2018. The event took place at UC Berkeley’s International House in the Chevron Auditorium.

The SIGNAL Symposium was the second in a series of events, following an earlier meeting at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory to introduce our research questions. Our purpose is to explore and analyze the effects of military capabilities upon nuclear thresholds, conflict escalation dynamics, and strategic stability through the use of serious games. This symposium brought together faculty, national laboratory scientists, think tank representatives, graduate, and undergraduate scholars, as well as members of the military, to compete in war games incorporating new techniques and platforms.

AGENDA

The agenda for the workshop is available here.

The event was held at the International House on the UC Berkeley Campus in Berkeley, CA. For more information on location, parking, and public transportation, click here.

GETTING TO BERKELEY

All three major airports in the San Francisco Bay Area provide access to Berkeley. Oakland International Airport is the closest airport to UC Berkeley, followed by San Francisco International Airport, and, lastly, San Jose International Airport. Traffic on Interstate 880 — used when traveling to Berkeley from either Oakland or San Jose — and through the Bay Bridge can be quite heavy, so be sure to allow for extra time when driving during rush hour.
